Fifty-seven high school musicians from District 202 have been selected to participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District 9 jazz, choir, band, and orchestra festivals this November. The senior jazz festival will take place on November 1 at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, while the senior concert festival is scheduled for November 8 at Dundee Crown High School in Carpentersville.
The students earned their spots through a competitive audition process. At the District 9 festivals, they will rehearse with leading music instructors and perform alongside peers from across the region as members of the District 9 choir, band, or orchestra.
Later this fall, participants will find out if they qualify for the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria, which runs from January 28 to January 31, 2026.
Students from Plainfield North High School are among those selected. The school serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 2,309 students during the 2019-2020 academic year. Of these students, about a quarter were seniors that year. The school's student body was composed of approximately 66 percent white students, nearly seven percent black students, just over thirteen percent Hispanic students, and about nine percent Asian students according to data from the Illinois Report Card (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
District 202’s list of honorees includes musicians from Plainfield High School-Central Campus, Plainfield South High School, Plainfield North High School, and Plainfield East High School. These students will participate in various ensembles such as Senior Band, Senior Jazz Band I-III, Orchestra, Senior Chorus, and Treble Chorus.
At the events next month, all selected musicians will work with expert instructors before performing with other top high school musicians from around District 9.
