The District 202 Board of Education has been honored by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for its governance practices. The board was among fewer than 50 school districts in Illinois to receive the School Board Governance Recognition honor, highlighting their effective governance behaviors and dedication to acquiring the skills needed to lead effectively.

The IASB's program acknowledges local boards that adhere to good governance practices as outlined in its Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. This recognition emphasizes full board development and participation, granting a two-year honorary distinction to those meeting the criteria.

District 202 Superintendent Dr. Glenn Wood commented on the achievement: “The members of our Board of Education have shown their commitment to the District, the students, and the entire community by continually improving their leadership skills and knowledge.”

Dr. Wood further explained that board members engage beyond meetings by studying issues, advocating for District 202, understanding school finance intricacies, and working on long-term projects like the Strategic Plan. This demonstrates how they engage with important community issues.

Members of the District 202 Board include Rod Westfall as President, Barbara Seiden as Vice President, Toni Galan as Secretary, along with Elias Kalantzis, Dr. Kathy Baxter, Dr. Joshua Ruland, and Margarita Morelos serving as board members.

The School Board Governance Recognition program aims to highlight how effective governance positively impacts students, staff, and the district community.
