District 202 has shown progress in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for Language Arts, according to the latest Illinois Report Card released by the Illinois State Board of Education. The report covers school performance data from the 2023-2024 academic year.
Dr. Paula Sereleas, District 202 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, stated, “We are heavily invested in improving classroom instruction which will provide an opportune learning environment for our students to continue to grow and achieve.”
The report highlights several areas of improvement:
- English Language Arts scores on the IAR increased by 6.7% compared to last year, marking a consistent rise over the past five years.
- Science scores on the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) rose by 2%.
- The percentage of students achieving performance levels on the Standardized Achievement Test (SAT) reached its highest since 2019.
- The high school graduation rate slightly increased to 93.6%, nearly six percent above the state average.
- All schools participated in the 5 Essentials Climate Survey, providing feedback from teachers, students, and parents.
Sereleas mentioned that District 202 will focus on mathematics across all grade levels and aim to improve school-to-home connections to reduce chronic absenteeism and enhance student attendance.
The State of Illinois assigns schools one of five summative designations based on various metrics. Lincoln Elementary School received an "Exemplary" designation, recognizing it among the top-performing schools statewide. Most other eligible schools were deemed "Commendable," except Wesmere Elementary School, which was designated as "Targeted."
“These two designations demonstrate the diversity of needs across our district,” Sereleas noted. She added that Wesmere Elementary would collaborate with the Illinois State Board of Education and district administration to improve its designation.
