District releases draft student boundary plan; public sessions set at Plainfield East High
Dr. Glenn Wood, Superintendent at District 202 | Plainfield East High School

District 202 has released the draft results of its Student Attendance Boundary Study, a planning effort prioritized by the community, district administration, and Board of Education. The study is part of the district's strategic planning goals approved in December 2022.

Community members are invited to review the draft study and provide feedback. The findings can be viewed at https://www.psd202.org/page/boundary-review, and input can be submitted through an online form.

Public input sessions will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Plainfield East High School and Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Plainfield High School – Central Campus. Both sessions begin at 6 p.m., and attendees will hear a presentation from RSP, the district’s third-party consultant. RSP will present the research methodology and recommendations before participants have the opportunity to review maps of proposed boundary changes and provide feedback via an online survey available during each session. No questions will be answered during these meetings.

According to District 202, “Input matters and will be heard: Share your thoughts here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpfQoxjISWc1uaOm6y4jjEMgJc1EmV4mrbSsL8Vba33d5J3w/viewform.”

The draft study addresses issues such as enrollment imbalances between schools, population shifts due to new housing developments, facility alignment with aging buildings and planned construction projects, and transportation efficiency related to bus routes and travel times.

Plainfield East High School is one of the district’s high schools affected by potential boundary adjustments. In the 2019-2020 school year, it had an enrollment of 2,162 students in grades 9 through 12 in Plainfield and Will County (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Demographically during that year, about 42 percent of students were white, nearly 16 percent black, about 26 percent Hispanic, and almost 11 percent Asian (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Enrollment was relatively evenly distributed across grades; grade 10 had the highest percentage at nearly a quarter of all students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The Board of Education plans to vote on new attendance boundaries on December 17, 2025. If approved, changes would go into effect for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
