The National German Exam (NGE) is an annual test taken by over 15,000 high school German students. It offers individual diagnostic feedback, rewards through a regional and national prize program, and fosters a sense of accomplishment among participants. Now in its 65th year, the exam serves as a tool for teachers to compare students nationwide and helps guide curricular decisions with its programmatic data.
The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), established in 1926, oversees the exam. The AATG is committed to enhancing the teaching of German language, literature, and culture across all instructional levels.
