A vehicle became submerged in a pond in Naperville, Illinois, on April 16, 2025, prompting a swift and coordinated emergency response by the Plainfield Fire Protection District and the Naperville Fire Department. The incident, which took place around 9:58 a.m. at the intersection of Royal Worlington Drive and Route 59, involved a single vehicle with an occupant inside.
Upon reaching the scene, emergency teams found the vehicle partially submerged in roughly six feet of water. Before their arrival, a landscaper who had witnessed the vehicle enter the pond had already taken action. Despite the driver’s inability to swim, the bystander managed to keep the driver’s head above water until help arrived.
Firefighters successfully extricated the driver from the vehicle and provided necessary on-site medical care. Both the driver and another party involved in the accident chose not to be transported to the hospital.
The cause of the situation was identified as a traffic accident that forced the vehicle off the road and into the pond. Divers from the Plainfield Fire Protection District aided in the vehicle’s recovery process, collaborating with a towing company to safely remove it from the water.
The Plainfield Fire Protection District praised the bystander's quick response, highlighting their significant contribution to the driver’s safety prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
