The Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to a fire at a home on South Poppy Lane early in the morning on March 29, 2025. Fire crews dispatched at around 5:56 a.m. found a fire in an enclosed sitting room at the back of the garage of a two-story, single-family home.
Paramedics treated a resident for smoke inhalation and burns, who was then transported in stable condition to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora. No firefighters were injured during the operation.
Investigators concluded that the fire was accidental, causing an estimated $15,000 in damage. The premises remained deemed habitable, as confirmed by the Plainfield Building Department.
Officials of the Plainfield Fire Protection District confirmed the presence of functioning smoke alarms and reiterated the importance of regular testing and practicing fire escape plans for all household members.
