The Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to a fire on March 24, 2025, in a commercial building located in the 24500 block of Lockport Street. Firefighters arrived at the scene four minutes after dispatch to find the rear exterior of a one-story vacant restaurant ablaze, along with a storage shed adjacent to the structure. The external fire was quickly put out, but further inspection revealed that the fire had spread into the attic.

The fire department sought assistance from nearby fire departments and districts, with additional units brought in to cover the Plainfield fire stations during the incident. There were no reported injuries, and the building was confirmed to be vacant at the time of the fire. The total damage is estimated to exceed $200,000. After inspection, the Plainfield Building Department declared the structure uninhabitable.

During the operation, the Plainfield Police and Plainfield Emergency Management teams assisted with traffic control and ensured firefighter rehabilitation. Nicor and Com Ed were called to secure the building's utilities.

"The cause of the fire is being investigated by Plainfield Fire Investigators and remains under investigation," said a statement from the fire department.
