On March 24, 2025, the Plainfield Fire Protection District promptly responded to a house fire report in the 11700 block of Millennium Parkway, Plainfield. Firefighters arriving on the scene noted flames originating from the roof over the garage of the two-story house.

Investigation revealed that the fire was confined to the solar panels atop the garage, with no spread to the rest of the home. The teams took swift action to put out the fire, safeguarding both the property and its residents. There were no injuries reported, and the homeowners were able to leave the premises safely. The fire's cause is still being looked into, with damage assessed at around $30,000.

The structure was evaluated by the Plainfield Building Department and declared habitable. ComEd was also requested to assess the residence's electrical system. Additionally, the solar panel manufacturer and a board-up company were involved to have protective tarps installed over all solar panels as a precaution against further electrical issues until replacements occur.

The Plainfield Fire Protection District reiterates its dedication to resident safety and advises homeowners with solar panels to maintain and inspect them regularly.
