The Plainfield Fire Protection District has announced the passing of William "Bill" Barnes, a longtime member of its Board of Trustees. Bill Barnes was known for his dedication to the district and community, contributing 60 years of service.
Barnes started his career with the district as a volunteer firefighter in 1955. He served in various roles within the volunteer fire department until 1981. In 1991, he returned to join the Board of Trustees, where he served for 34 years, including time as board president. He had planned to complete his final year of service at the end of April.
The family is organizing services to honor Barnes's life, with details forthcoming. The community is encouraged to keep Barnes and his family in their thoughts during this time.
