Student science Olympiads from Plainfield East and North high schools achieved significant success at a regional tournament. The Waubonsie Valley Science Olympiad Regional Tournament took place on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Kyleah Edison and Beatrice Ordeneza, juniors from Plainfield East High School (PEHS), secured first place in the Write It Do It category. In the Optics event, PEHS sophomore Ira Chakraborty and junior Aleena Yousuf also claimed first place. From Plainfield North High School (PNHS), senior Omer Mescioglu and junior Patricia Botnari won first place in Anatomy & Physiology. Additionally, Mescioglu partnered with senior Sakina Rizvi to win first place in Microbe Mission.

- Charlie Hidalgo and Aleena Yousuf, juniors, Chemistry Lab, fourth place
- Zoe Lee and Beatrice Ordeneza, juniors, Disease Detectives, fourth place
- Zoe Lee, Kyleah Edison and Beatrice Ordeneza all juniors for Experimental Design placed fourth
Plainfield North High School:
- Makayla Oberg and Nyla Rizvi both juniors for Write It Do It placed second
- Prakul Madaan and Sakina Rizvi both seniors for Helicopter placed second
- Patricia Botnari and Kaitlyn Gaszak both juniors for Entomology placed third
- Patricia Botnari and Kaitlyn Gaszak both juniors for Fossils placed fourth
- Makayla Oberg and Nyla Rizvi both juniors for Optics placed fourth
- Carson Payne junior for Robot Tour placed fourth
- Carson Payne junior for Wind Power also placed fourth
These students will advance to compete at the Illinois Individual Science Olympiad State Tournament on April 26th at McHenry County College.
