Ten students from District 202 high schools have achieved top positions in two notable art competitions. These students excelled in The Scholastic Regional Art and Writing Awards and the Lewis University High School Art Invitational.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards invite students from 7th to 12th grade across the nation to submit their artistic or literary works in various categories. Successful participants can earn scholarships and have their work published or exhibited by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. "Gold Key" awardees will be considered for national recognition, with National Medals being awarded later this spring. Top national entries will be featured in the organization's national tour during spring and summer.
Winners of The Scholastic Regional Art and Writing Awards include:
From Plainfield East High School:
- Angelyn Wong, a senior, received a Gold Key for animation.
- Sarah Martinez, a senior, earned a Silver Key for digital art.
- Nicolas Loza-Ramirez, a senior, and Mia Summlion (a 2024 graduate) received Honorable Mentions for digital art.
From Plainfield South High School:
- Faith Pondelicek, a senior, was awarded a Gold Key for drawing and illustration.
- Vanessa Valdes, a junior, received an Honorable Mention for drawing and illustration.
- Lilliann Moeller, a junior, was given an Honorable Mention for ceramics and glass.
The Lewis University High School Art Invitational showcases artwork across various mediums such as mixed media, sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, etching, and digital illustration.
Winners of the Lewis University High School Art Invitational include:

- Sarah Martinez received an Honorable Mention.
From Plainfield North High School:
- Liam McManaman secured third place.
From Plainfield South High School:
- April Estrella took second place.
From Plainfield High School – Central Campus:
- Ollie Cavenaile received an Honorable Mention.
