More than 700 students at Plainfield East High School underwent heart screenings conducted by Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) on November 12, 2024. The initiative aimed to identify early signs of cardiac issues and found several students who require further medical evaluation.

These free screenings are part of a program initiated by District 202 and YH4L in 2019 to promote student heart health. They are conducted twice a year across all four high schools in the district.

The event was supported by volunteers from the community, including parents, members of the Carillon Cares volunteer group, and local college students studying medical, nursing, and EMT courses. Their participation was crucial to the smooth operation of the screening process.

“We are grateful to everyone who came together to make this screening event possible, especially our parent volunteers and the dedicated local students training in healthcare fields,” said Christina Edwards, Director of Health Services at Plainfield School District. “These screenings are a powerful tool in safeguarding the health of our students, and the community’s support was instrumental in delivering this vital service."

Edwards highlighted that the success of these screenings demonstrates the district's commitment to proactive health measures for its students' future well-being.

Upcoming screenings will take place at Plainfield Central High School on February 25, 2025. Additional sessions at Plainfield North and Plainfield South High Schools are planned for the 2025-2026 school year.
