Sixty high school musicians from District 202 have been selected to participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District 9 jazz, choir, band, and orchestra festivals this November. The senior jazz festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora. The senior concert festival will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Dundee Crown High School in Carpentersville.
The students were chosen through a competitive audition process to perform in these prestigious events. At the District 9 festivals, they will rehearse with top musical instructors and perform alongside other talented students from the area as part of the District 9 Choir, Band, or Orchestra.
Later this fall, these students will find out if they qualify to perform at the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria from January 29 to February 1, 2025.
Participating students come from four high schools within District 202: Plainfield High School-Central Campus; Plainfield South High School; Plainfield North High School; and Plainfield East High School. They will be performing across various categories including band instruments like trombone and clarinet; orchestra instruments such as flute and French horn; mixed chorus with voices ranging from alto to bass; and treble chorus featuring sopranos and altos.
This opportunity allows these young musicians to showcase their talents on a larger stage while gaining valuable experience working with accomplished music educators.
